Robotic ranking system

Following is a proposal for robotic ranking system. Comments welcomed. It's main purpose is to foster travelling of teams on various contests around.

Ranking period is a calendar year, starting 1.1.2013.

Robot Ranking

Robot is registered for specific contest, e.g. linefollower (at this moment, please ignore local variations of rules). For each contest robot obtains points depending on its rank in particular contest and number of contestants in this contest.

An example:

  • Robot R participates contest C1 (150 robots participating) and finishes at 3rd place here.
  • Robot R participatrs also contest C2 (only 10 robots participating) and finishes also 3rd place.

Ranking for Robot R: 148 points from C1 + 8 pts. from C2 = 156 pts.

Winner of C1 obtains 150 pts, for 2nd place 149, for 3rd 148 etc. Last robot in C1 obtains 1 point.

Winner of C2 obtains 10 pts, 2nd place 9, 3rd place 8 pts. etc. Last robot in C2 obtains also 1 point.

Team Ranking

Team registered in ranking system collects points according the same scheme as above, the only difference is that team can compete in various categories in various contests.

Anyway, only single category can be considered for one team and one contest. If a team wants to compete and rank in more categories, more sub-teams (let's say Team A, Team B, etc.) should be registered.

Responsibilities

Organisers of robotic contests may ask to be included into the ranking. Specific contest will be included if the event will met following conditions:

  • rules are available in english
  • foreign teams are accepted
  • organiser will provide the complete results table to the ranking tables maintainer within a week after the contest

Discussion

  • Logarithmic scale?

Although more fair, it is too complicated to explain.

  • Split amateurs and professionals?

No. School team is amateur or proffesional?

Keep the rules simple.
